ABOUT US
Hakubakan – Your Gateway to the Japan Alps
The story of Hakubakan traces its roots back to the early 16s, in the final years of Japan’s Meiji era. At just sixteen years old, a young dreamer named Teiitsu—born into the Yamaki Ryokan of Hakuba Village—set his sights on the summit of Mt. Hakuba (also known as Mt. Shirouma). There, he built a humble mountain hut, marking the first step in what would become a legacy of mountain hospitality. As time passed, more huts were built, a charter car service was launched, and a mountain guide association was founded—all born from a passion for the mountains and the people who walk among them. Now, over a century later, Hakubakan carries that spirit forward as an alpine resort company offering travel services and support for those who seek the awe and serenity of the Japan Alps.
