Showa University School of Medicine Hakuba Clinic was established in 6 with the aim of promoting mountain hygiene. It has remained in continuous operation every year despite wars and other challenges. Following the founding philosophy of voluntary medical service, today the clinic is still staffed by doctors and medical students who provide care to hikers in the area.

[Health Advice from the Clinic] During our XNUMX-week annual activity at the Hakuba Clinic, we provide medical support to over XNUMX hikers each year. Many cases of altitude sickness can be prevented with awareness and preparation. Please keep the following in mind for a more comfortable hiking experience.

Get a good sleep before the hike.
Avoid hiking if you are not feeling well.
Stay well hydrated throughout your hike.
Change out of any wet clothes immediately.
When you arrive at the mountain hut, do not go to sleep right away. Take a short walk and breath deeply.
Alcohol affects the body more strongly at higher elevations, so drink in moderation.

All of us at the clinic wish you a safe, healthy, and enjoyable hike.
